The climate is changing all over the world. It is a fact and no longer a theory to be tested. Scientists and researchers have known and have been saying it for some time but it seems that "the powerful of the Earth" still have not understood the seriousness of the problem and that it is not possible to continue "as if nothing had happened".
To avoid the disaster it is necessary to act… and very quickly!
Mind cymatics is the next conference organized Wednesday 25 September, from Mirasole Social Enterprise Project isThe Tree of Life Foundation to share the latest data on global warming, to understand the changes our territory is undergoing and to understand what to do to "change course" and to make the world greener and more sustainable.
ClimaticaMente: when it will take place
Climatically it will take place on the day Wednesday 25 September 2019, in the beautiful Mirasole Abbey, in Opera (MI), Str. Consortile Mirasole, 7, from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm with free admission upon registration (NECESSARY TO ACCESS) on the official event page accessible at this link .
IdeeGreen.it at ClimaticaMente
Our IdeeGreen Società Benefit he joined the initiative with pleasure and I too will try to provide my contribution in the session dedicated to the changes that all of us will have to implement towards sustainable behavior. I will tell what we at IdeeGreen are doing to make our commitment concrete, not only as regards actions in the environmental field but also as regards our psychophysical well-being and the relationship with nature, especially for those who live in the city.
The ClimaticaMente program (updated to 19 September)
27 years since the signing of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change: many words and few facts
They have passed 27 years since the signing of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, UNFCCC), which took place in June 1992 and signed at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development that same year, in Rio de Janeiro.
On June 12, 1992 154 nations signed the UNFCC and governments pledged after ratification to pursue a "non-binding objective"To reduce atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases with the aim of" preventing dangerous anthropogenic interference with the earth's climate system ".
Under the terms of the UNFCCC, having received ratifications from more than 50 countries, the treaty entered into force on March 21, 1994.
Since that time, the parties have met annually in the "Conference of the Parties (COP)"To analyze the progress in tackling the phenomenon of climate change, starting from the mid-1990s, to negotiate theKyoto Protocol to establish legally binding actions for developed countries in reducing their greenhouse gas emissions.
The latest COP (the COP24), took place from 3 to 14 December 2018 in Katowice, Poland. COP24 was responsible for defining the rules for implementing the 2015 Paris Agreement. The ultimate goal was to try to put a stop to climate change globally and define a "Rule Book", A guide book to implement all the principles of the Agreement, which will enter into force in 2020.
In all these years, many words, many good intentions but few facts! The reality is that almost all the signatory governments ARE NOT DOING ENOUGH and we have even come to have a president of the United States of America who withdrew his commitments and denied the scientific evidence that proves climate change, and then began to mend. just in recent months, after completely anomalous and devastating meteorological events have further confirmed the changes taking place.
2 degrees is not enough anymore!
The limit of 2 degrees imposed by COP21 is no longer sufficient: to avoid catastrophes we cannot allow temperatures to rise above 1.5 degrees and for this we must reduce CO2 emissions in the air by 45% by 2030, a percentage that must rise to 100% by 2050.
During COP24 it was also established how to distribute the necessary financial resources to support least developed countries to induce them to reduce their CO2 emissions.
The facts are always missing ...
The risks to humanity related to climate change
According to a study, published on November 19, 2018 in Nature Climate Change, global warming is exposing humanity to enormous risks. The increase of so many extreme weather phenomena could force some areas of the planet to face at least 6 crises related to climate change by the end of this century.
The 23 authors of the research, who engaged in an unprecedented multidisciplinary effort, reviewing over 3,000 articles on the different effects of climate change, determined 467 ways in which such changes affect physical and mental health, food security, availability of water, infrastructure and other aspects of life on Earth. The document includes an interactive map of the various hazards according to the levels of carbon dioxide emissions between now and 2095.
As consequences of the changes underway, the following are highlighted in particular:
- increase in the temperature of the planet
- increase and decrease in precipitation
- increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme climatic events
- increased risk of desertification
- decrease in glaciers and perennial snows
- sea level rise
- loss of biodiversity
- spread of diseases
- problems in food production.
The data and scientific research show that the alteration of these factors is not only ongoing, but will be increasingly relevant in the future, strongly affecting our daily life.
The alarming data on climate change in Italy
The alarm related to climate change is particularly serious for our country. By carefully analyzing the temperature data, Italy is warming up faster than the global average and other land masses on the planet. The new record reached in 2014 was + 1.45 ° C compared to the thirty year period 1971-2000 (source: ISAC-CNR).
Even at a global level in 2014 the record of global temperatures was reached, with an increase of + 0.46 ° C compared to the thirty years 1971-2000.
There global warming trend, which can be calculated by evaluating not only the data of one year but the trend of the last few decades, is for Italy one and a half times that of the land mass average and double that of the entire planet.
The "environmental migrants"
Among the most serious consequences of climate change is the phenomenon that we can define as "environmental migrants”, That is, of those people forced to leave the territories of birth or election because they have been made unlivable by the consequences of climate change. The numbers of these "eco-migrants" are constantly growing in correspondence with the intensification of the environmental catastrophes that have hit the earth.
But alsoless immediate climatic events, such as desertification or the loss of soil productivity, induce people to abandon their homes in the absence of those basic conditions that make the territory livable the changes in ecological and forest systems, which will tend in part to disintegrate (those systems that are slower to adapt to changed conditions), and in part to move towards higher latitudes, with the consequent changes in the landscape and with profound implications especially in the sectors of agriculture, tourism and leisure, changes in coastal marine environments, the repercussions on the socio-economic system, not only for the changed conditions of economic development, but also for the changed job and employment opportunities of the new generations and for the greater health risks of the population most vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
All these nefarious events are also fueling local wars, terrorism, situations of insecurity and increased crime which are always fueled by poverty and a lack of culture and education. I would like to point out, for example, the contribution of Emanuele Bompan on our site dedicated to the Wars for Water and the phenomenon of Water Grabbing.
It is necessary to intervene as soon as possible, not only at the level of governments but also in the small daily behaviors that multiplied by millions of people determine effects of national or even global scope.
Climatic Mind it will be an appointment not to be missed to hear the thoughts of some members of civil society engaged in the fight against climate change and to feed their awareness of sustainable behavior.
